Integrity through origin

Thornber Yarns is founded on more than 40 years' experience in the UK wool textiles industry. The Natural Palette is our introductory range...100% British wool, worsted spun in the UK, and made within a fifteen mile radius of the British Wool depot in Bradford — as close to the fibre source as UK production can get.

Every batch is fully traceable, accredited by British Wool, from British sheep breeds, nothing is dyed, every shade in this range is derived from the natural colour of the fleece.

The Natural Palette

Why worsted spun...

Worsted spinning combs the fibres parallel before spinning, rather than leaving them carded and random as in woollen spinning. In this range, that gives you:

  • Better durability

  • Better drape

  • More defined stitch definition

  • A smoother, more refined finish than an equivalent woollen-spun yarn

Knitting guidance...

Always knit a trial swatch before production, using your machine's recommended settings for the relevant count (1/7Nm or 2/7Nm) — gauge will vary by machine and stitch structure, so swatching against a specific batch is the reliable way to confirm settings. As a pure wool yarn, it will full and soften slightly after finishing, so allow for this in your swatch measurements.

Washing/finishing advice...

  • Hand wash or use a gentle wool cycle, cold to lukewarm water

  • Use a wool-safe detergent

  • Do not tumble dry

  • Dry flat, away from direct heat, reshaping while damp
